Monitors
Monitors evaluate your saved strategies and households on a schedule and alert you when something needs attention. The Monitors hub shows every monitor you own with its latest evaluation and email controls.
Open Monitors →Use this when
Use monitors when you want the platform to keep checking a saved strategy or household so you do not have to. Each monitor evaluates on a schedule, records its latest state, and can email you when something changes.
Good for
- Getting an email when a live strategy's signal flips state.
- Catching allocation drift before it breaches your rebalance bands by a wide margin.
- Tracking when harvestable losses appear or a wash-sale window clears.
- Noticing stale holdings snapshots or stale market data before they mislead a decision.
Reach for a different tool when
- Running a new backtest or simulation. Monitors only evaluate saved configurations.
- Intraday alerting. Evaluations run on a weekday schedule against the latest available close.
First run
Create the source
Set a strategy live from Strategy Builder, or save a household with a target allocation and holdings snapshot.
Enable a monitor
Turn on drift, tax-loss, or freshness monitors from the Portfolio Dashboard, or the tax-loss monitor from Household Tax Opportunities.
Choose email delivery
On the Monitors hub, toggle email alerts per monitor and pick each-change or daily-digest delivery where supported.
Review evaluations
The hub shows each monitor's latest evaluation, whether action is suggested, and when the last email was sent.
Monitor Kinds
Each monitor kind evaluates one specific condition. All kinds are Pro-gated and owned by your account.
| Monitor | What It Watches | Where To Set It Up |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy signal | A live strategy's signal state, evaluated against the latest market data. Flags state changes and pending rebalance trades. | Set a saved strategy live from Strategy Builder. Source surface: Live Signals. |
| Allocation drift | Your household's current weights against its target allocation. Alerts when any asset drifts outside the configured rebalance bands. | Drift watch panel on the Portfolio Dashboard. Defaults: 5 percentage points absolute, 25% relative, either band (the 5/25 rule). |
| Tax-loss opportunity | The household's harvestable-loss set. Alerts when the set of opportunities materially changes, not when prices merely move. | Monitor tax-loss button on the Household Tax Opportunities page. |
| Stale holdings snapshot | The age of the household's latest holdings snapshot. Alerts once when it crosses the threshold (default 7 days). | Freshness & window monitors panel on the Portfolio Dashboard. |
| Data freshness | Market data for each held ticker. Alerts when a ticker's data goes stale or unavailable (default 3 days). | Freshness & window monitors panel on the Portfolio Dashboard. |
| Wash-sale window | Active wash-sale blocker windows. Alerts when a window opens and, optionally, when it clears and the position is safe to rebuy. | Freshness & window monitors panel on the Portfolio Dashboard. |
| Tax cliff proximity | How close household income sits to tax cliffs: long-term gains bracket tops, NIIT, IRMAA tiers, ACA thresholds, and upcoming RMDs. Alerts when a cliff newly enters the buffer (default $5,000). | Freshness & window monitors panel on the Portfolio Dashboard. |
Evaluation Cadence
- Monitors are evaluated automatically on a weekday schedule against the latest available market data. The hub shows the last-checked time and the as-of date for each monitor.
- Alerts fire on changes, not on persistence. A breach or stale condition that simply continues does not re-email you every day; the monitor notifies again only when the underlying state changes.
- Strategy signal and drift monitors also support on-demand checks from their source surfaces (Check Signals on the Portfolio Dashboard and Live Signals; Evaluate now on the drift watch panel) without affecting the scheduled alerts.
Email Delivery And Notification Preferences
- Per-monitor toggle: every monitor has its own email alerts switch on the Monitors hub. Turning email off keeps the monitor evaluating; you still see results in-app.
- Delivery cadence: strategy signal, allocation drift, and tax-loss monitors can deliver on each change or as a daily digest. The household freshness and window monitors use a single threshold and have no cadence control.
- Notify-on threshold: strategy signal monitors can notify on any change or only when the signal state flips.
- In-app notifications: the notification bell surfaces the same alerts inside the app, labeled by source. Deleting a monitor stops its alerts everywhere.
Monitors And Live Strategies
Strategy signal monitors are the alerting side of live strategies. A saved Strategy Builder strategy that you set live appears on the Live Signals dashboard with its current signal state and any pending rebalance trades. When the live strategy is also linked to your saved household and holdings snapshot, the Portfolio Dashboard shows account-level pending trades for it. The monitor evaluates the same definition on a schedule and emails you when its state changes.
The Monitors hub deep-links each monitor back to its source surface (Open source), so changing what a monitor watches always happens where the underlying object lives.
Wash-Sale Calendar
Separate from the wash-sale window monitor, the Portfolio Dashboard shows a wash-sale calendar whenever the household has active wash-sale windows. It lists the date each position is safe to rebuy without triggering a wash sale, with snooze and resolve actions per entry.
Scheduled monitoring is a Pro workflow

Glossary
Glossary
- Monitor
- A scheduled evaluation of one saved object (strategy or household) that records its latest state and can email you on changes.
- Live strategy
- A saved Strategy Builder strategy you set live so its signal state is evaluated against current market data.
- Rebalance band
- The allowed distance from a target weight before a drift alert fires. Absolute bands are in percentage points; relative bands are a percentage of the target itself.
- 5/25 rule
- A common drift convention: rebalance when an asset is 5 percentage points or 25% of its own target away from plan, whichever comes first.
- Wash-sale window
- The 30-day period around a loss sale during which buying a substantially identical security disallows the loss.
- Daily digest
- An email delivery mode that batches a monitor's alerts into at most one message per day.
